BACKGROUND The Scottish 6 Days will be hosted by Moravian Orienteers in 2023 (July 30th – August 4th ) and although we are a fairly small club we will, as usual, rise to the occasion.
This biennial orienteering festival attracts orienteers from all over the UK and beyond; we already have entries from Scandinavia, Australia, USA and New Zealand. There will be courses for everyone: toddlers dashing round a String Course; all junior and senior age classes (M/W 10 – 80+) as well as Colour Coded from White to Green.
All the information you need to pre-enter and get excited about being part of this great event is available on the Moray 2023 website, which will be regularly updated as more details are finalised.
ENTRIES Entries are managed via Fabian4 and as well as entering the orienteering events, there is merchandise available to pre-order: specially designed Moray 2023 O tops, hoodies, t-shirts, buff and even a 'gymsac' to hold your O kit.
Whether this will be your first - or twenty-first - experience of a high-quality multi-day orienteering you won't be disappointed. Very early bird rates apply until January 31st 2023 and rise steadily after that.

VOLUNTEERING Each day has two or three clubs allocated to organise the Parking, Starts, Finish, String Course and to provide volunteers to help with other tasks such as setting up the arena, shifts at Information Point, Download, Control Collection. There is also a Planning and Controlling team for each day who have been out in the areas over the last few months and already have outline courses planned. Maps have been updated and printing is organised centrally.
SO, what is there left for YOU to do? Well, alongside the events each day there are a number of ways in which Moravian members can contribute to the success of the whole week for the many hundreds of people who will be coming to Moray 2023.
Here are some of the opportunities – please volunteer for something! Contact Elizabeth Furness (Event Coordinator) coordinator (at) scottish6days.com
Saturday July 29th Event Centre (Forres Town Hall) helpers Liz Campbell is co-ordinating this between midday and 6pm (latest) and will need a small team of people to help set up, guide people who have come to pick up bibs, hire dibbers, merchandise and browse the O kit traders.
Social Programme Coordinator During the week we aim to organise a few social events and need a coordinator plus a few people willing to support one or more of the events. So far we have a Ceilidh booked for Tuesday 1st August at the Town Hall with Findhorn Coastal Rowing Club providing the team for the evening to set up, check tickets etc. Other ideas/possibilities for which we need a coordinator/organisers: a Whisky and or Gin Tasting, a quiz evening, maybe a traditional music session, discount at a golf club … other things you may think of.
Prize-giving helpers Lesley Coutts is coordinating this and will need a couple of helpers for the ceremonies. On Monday (and maybe Tuesday) there is a World Ranking Event which will have a prize-giving and then on Friday afternoon there will be the main prize-giving for the overall winners.
Sponsorship Coordinator The event aims to be largely self-financing, however we also want to keep entry costs at an attractive rate so any sponsorship we can attract helps towards this. It is invaluable to have someone to coordinate this effort. Sponsorship in kind is equally as valued as hard cash – for example prizes, string course 'rewards'. All sponsors will be acknowledged via the website and, if appropriate, with a logo on eg a map or certificate.
Event Signage helpers Ken Anderson is coordinating this and may require the support of a couple of people at specific times for road signage.
