Event Summary

Brodie Castle may be closed for the holidays but they have kindly let us use their grounds for a 3 course sprint challenge which will test your orienteering skills - with no control numbers on the map and lots of controls out on the course speed will not win the day!

The courses have been prepared on the assumption that you will be fully recovered after Christmas and New Year - you need to have a clear head !

We do not have an indoor venue for this one so bring warm clothes for between your runs!

For juniors there will be a yellow course.

For the other competitors, there will be three courses – A, B, C – all  about 1.5km long. You can run the courses in any order.  Once you have run one course, have a rest, and some refreshment, and then tackle the next course etc. You can stop after one course if you want, but Donald hope that everyone tries to run all 3 courses.

  • Prize winners will be:
    • 1, 2, 3 cumulative times for all three courses (if there are enough entrants, we may have some classes, e.g. Open, vets, supervets, Juniors etc.
    • There will also be individual prizes for the fastest on each course, who have not picked up a cumulatve prize. So if you want, you can only run one course, and still have a chance of winning a prize.
  • Courses will be open from 11:00 to 12:30 – so you have 90 minutes to run (or walk) 3 x 1.5km courses.

Courses

There will be 4 courses (maps):

  1. Yellow (1.4km, 17 controls) simplified for yellow standard
  2. Course A (1.5km, 15 controls)
  3. Course B (1.5km, 15 controls)
  4. Course C (1.6km, 18 controls)

Competitor Instructions:

  • PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
    • All courses do not have control codes on the maps or Control Descriptions.
    • Controls sites are: path junctions, building corners, gates, fence corners, thickets, hills, benches or boulders.
    • Control circles contain a central magenta dot, which defines the precise location of the control. Beware, there may be similar features nearby, and there may be other controls on the same feature –  Precise navigation will be just as important as speed.
    • I recommend that you run with a control description on your forearm – you will need to read descriptions accurately at speed to win.
    • PLEASE DO NOT SHARE YOUR MAP WITH FELLOW COMPETITORS AFTER EACH RUN to ensure a certain surprise element.
  • There is one yellow course (1.4km with 17 controls) which is a lower Technical Difficulty for beginners. Please note that this is not strictly Yellow standard (it doesn’t follow line features).
  • For the other competitors, there will be three courses – A, B, C – all  about 1.5km long. You can run the courses in any order, and I recommend that at the start, runners are set off at least 20 seconds apart, and on alternate courses. Once you have run one course, have a rest, and some refreshment, and then tackle the next course etc. You can stop after one course if you want, but I hope that everyone tries to run all 3 courses.
  • Prize winners will be:
    • 1, 2, 3 cumulative times for all three courses (if there are enough entrants, we may have some classes, e.g. Open, vets, supervets, Juniors etc.
