Event Summary

Welcome to event #4 of this year's Northern Urban League, kindly sponsored by YourOMaps.  We would also like to extend a special welcome to the Sapper Games community, who will be competing in this event as part of that competition.  The Sapper Games community will compete in a 60-minute score event.  The Northern Orienteering Urban League will have two courses: long and short.  The current league standings after three events are linked here: invoc.org.uk/results/2024/NUL_League.htm.

This event will be held across the centre of Elgin, Cooper Park and Elgin East.  Some of the area was last used competitively in September 2022, as part of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League.  The routegadget is attached here: 2022-09-24 Elgin Cooper Park SOUL (routegadget.co.uk).

This year's Series has five events, organised by BASOC, INVOC and MOR.  The event dates and locations are as follows:

  • Event #1 - Grantown - Wednesday 29 May 2024 - BASOC.
  • Event #2 - Milton & Drakies - Friday 07 June 2024 - INVOC.
  • Event #3 - Forres - Wednesday 19 June 2024 - MOR

Courses

Northern Orienteering Urban League:

  • Long - 4.7 km, 29 controls, 10m climb.
  • Short - 2.9 km, 20 controls, 5m climb.

Course lengths are straight line.  The optimum route is likely to be up to 20% more.  SI Air will be enabled.  Loose control descriptions will be available.

Sapper Games Only:

  • 60-min Score Event, 33 controls.  Each control will score 10 points.  For each whole minute over the 60-min time limit, 10 points will be deducted.  So, please manage your time carefully to avoid any unnecessary penalties.  Loose control descriptions will be available.

All courses will encounter parkland, with path options available.  Shorts are permitted.  If the weather leading up to the event has been very wet, shoes with grip are recommended.  There are various road crossings - some of which are busy.  Please be observant of traffic and other road users and cross any roads with care.  The main A96 road through Elgin and the A941 Elgin to Lossiemouth road are strictly out of bounds.
