Directions and Parking

Assembly will hopefully be outside Blairs Loch Boathouse.  It is an outdoor assembly so remember to bring your warm clothes for after you have run.  

Friends of Blairs Loch have done a great job which continues to upgrade the area around Blairs Loch so if you can support them by becoming a friend it would be appreciated by them.  More details at https://blairsloch.com

Follow the A940 (Forres to Grantown Road) out of Forres for approximately 2 miles once you pass the turn off for Dallas Dhu the road bears left and after approximately 1/2 mile there is a turn off on the left which will be marked with an orienteering kite.  Take this turn off and follow the road for a short distance until the turn off for the boathouse.

Short (TD4)- 3.1km, 8 controls

Long (TD4)- 4.5 km, 11 controls

Shadowing Rules. Note that anyone under the age of 14 MUST be accompanied on the course by an adult unless the parent/guardian can convince the organizer of the young orienteer's proven competence at night orienteering. Adults shadowing juniors on the short course WILL be allowed to run competitIvely on the Medium/Long afterwards. If you shadow a junior on the Medium/Long you will NOT be allowed to run competitively yourself. 

NB - PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON THE TIME WHILE OUT ON YOUR COURSE. Failure to return by the 8pm cutoff causes safety problems and inconvenience. We appreciate that this sometimes occurs accidentally but please plan accordingly.

Terrain

The terrain is a mix of heather and pine woodland around Blairs Loch with coniferous plantations in Office Wood.

Safety Information

  • All Competitors take part at their own risk and a choose a course that matches their experience and fitness (under 14s must run with an adult unless they have proven competence at night orienteering - parents please discuss with us at registration if in doubt).
  • All competitors must register before running to collect your map.
  • You MUST report to Download by Course Closing Time
  • PLEASE wear a reflective top as there is a private road on the way to the start, 2 (minor) Road Crossings and a 200m run along the minor road.
  • Be careful on/near the roads
  • Make sure your head torch is fully charged. We recommend carrying an emergency spare!
  • All competitors must wear warm clothing and /or waterproof clothing as appropriate.
  • Competitors are advised to notify the organiser of any relevant medical conditions and should complete any details on SI entries.
  • Take care crossing any road.

Insurance: If you have joined an orienteering club, or are competing in one of your first 3 events, then you are covered by our public liability insurance.

Hired Si Cards: We provide loan of these if you don't have your own but if you lose it there will be a £30 charge for its replacement.
