Courses

Three Courses:

  • Long (NNC) 5.1km; Climb 180m; 15 controls.
  • Short (NNC) 3.2km; Climb 125m; 10 controls.
  • Junior (Non-NNC) (TD2/3) - 2.6km; Climb 120m; 9 Controls.

Shadowing and Juniors.  Note that anyone under the age of 14 MUST be accompanied on the course by an adult, unless the parent/guardian can convince the organizer of the young orienteer's proven competence at night orienteering.  If you shadow a junior on any course, you must declare yourself non-competitive to the organiser if later running one of the courses.

Terrain

Quarry Wood is a steep sided forested hill with pockets of very complex terrain due to old quarry workings. Runnability varies from very fast to some rough sections with heather underfoot.  There is an extensive path network.

The quarries in this forest contain tall cliffs and present a significant hazard at night.  Control legs have been planned to avoid the dangers and out of bounds lines mark uncrossable fences.  Competitors MUST NOT cross out of bounds lines on the map.  There is one fence crossing on the Long Course which is marked on the ground with hazard tapes which takes competitors over a collapsed fence near a control.  Please take care at this crossing.

1:7500, 5m contours.
